Greetings fellow players and fans!
As a fellow player and fan of The Spoils since right after its creation back in the ol’ Beta days, it is with great honor that I accept this title of Head Judge, Judicator of Luridia. I have been playing the game for nearly 10 years now, with a small break during the release of Shade due to moving and marriage and whatnot (oh, life!), and it’s an awesome privilege to get to contribute to the game in a way I love. Handling rulings!
For a brief, nostalgic story of my history as a player, I first saw the game at a (at the time) local hobby store called Big Tent Hobby Shop. I would go there to buy DragonBall Z and Naruto cards (both great games!) and to chat with the owners. I had historically played a ton of other games (Pokémon, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, .Hack, to name just a few) and so I was always on the lookout for something new and intriguing. That was when those oh-so-strange booster packs for 1st Edition caught my eye.
I bought some packs and a starter and, upon crackin’ those beauties, I instantly fell in love. Jacque’s Trap had me in tears (I still want this one as a playmat!) and I couldn’t, at the time, wrap my head around how Sneaky Mansion was balanced (besides, how could they not see that huge flippin’ mansion?!), and I knew, from that moment, that this game was destined for greatness.
I began to work my keister off to try and build a player base in my area, pulling strings with all the local hobby stores to spread the word and invite new players to try the game. I stopped at, and played in, several of the bus tour tournaments of olden days and became an entry-level judge and ambassador as soon as I found out about the roles. Fast-forward all of this to many years later, and I had the honor of getting some sweet recognition within the great, new corporate team of Arcane Tinmen and was invited to help out at many of the events across the country. This led to me eventually having the chance to help out with insight on future projects and, eventually, the offer to be the new Head Judge for The Spoils.
With all that being said, as your new Head Judge, it is both an honor and a blessing to work alongside all of you (A.T. employees and players) to make this the greatest card game, ever. I want to thank you all for playing and supporting this great game and I hope to see you all at GenCon to kick butt and take names! Bring your Boorish Boar(s), too! I’ll be autographing my first R&D forums-inspired card! *wink wink*
